Natasha Lyonne stars as a woman stuck in a deadly time loop in this dark Netflix comedy the Orange Is the New Black actress co-created with Amy Poehler and Leslye Headland. TIME hails it as “2019’s best new show to date” and “cerebral yet propulsive.”
A Discovery of Witches
A young historian uncovers a supernatural world — and, conveniently, meets a handsome vampire ally — when she finds a lost manuscript hiding in the Oxford library in this Sundance Now drama that the Los Angeles Times calls “elegant and charming.”

The very adult Maya Erskine and Anna Konkle pass themselves off as 13-year-olds in this Hulu comedy, which Entertainment Weekly describes as “an impossible masterpiece of teen TV that is authentically raw but also dreamily weird.”
Boomerang
A continuation of the 1992 Eddie Murphy rom-com of the same name and executive-produced by original star Halle Berry, this BET comedy with “laid-back charm” follows a tight-knit group of friends at work and play.
Good Trouble
Freeform’s follow-up to The Fosters sees Callie and Mariana navigating office politics and roommate romances as young adults coming of age in Los Angeles. Vox says the show may be the “first good Gen Z show” on TV. “It’s forthright and earnest, and it wears its politics on its sleeve.”
Sex Education
A teen follows in the footsteps of his sex therapist mom (The X-Files’ Gillian Anderson) and helps his classmates through their sexual hangups. The New York Times calls the Netflix comedy a “smart, sensitive look at teens finding their place and figuring out the owner’s manuals for their bodies.”
Doom Patrol
One of the first entries on the DC Universe streaming service, this action drama boasts a superhero team played by the likes of Brendan Fraser, Matt Bomer, and Timothy Dalton. The A.V. Club deems it “absurdly watchable. Bananas, yes, but enjoyably bananas.”
The Other Two
Two adult siblings are caught in the cogs of the fame machine when their younger brother becomes a teen idol. Our own Matt Roush calls the Comedy Central show “a raunchy comedy of soul-degrading envy and desperation, with an unexpectedly sweet core.”
Watership Down
In Netflix’s animated adaptation of the classic Richard Adams novel, a colony of rabbits brave a treacherous journey to find a new home. “It is rigorously intelligent, absolutely thrilling, and — unless the kids are about 17 — definitely not for children,” raves The Wall Street Journal.
